How our private rooms stay end-to-end encrypted
Private rooms in ChatApp use AES-GCM 256 encryption. The key is generated in
your browser and lives only in the URL fragment after the # — a part of the
link that browsers never send to any server.
That means the ChatApp server only ever relays opaque ciphertext. It cannot read your messages, your stickers, or (soon) your voice notes and video clips sent in a private room.
Public rooms work differently — they're built for open discussion, so messages are stored so you get history when you come back. If privacy is what you need, start a private room instead.
